THE FOUR KEYS TO A STRATEGIC STRIKE.

When most people think of fighting they see images of a boxing ring, punches, kicks, sweat and knock outs. At WTA, we think about technique and strategy. We fight proper and we teach you to do the same. There are four keys to throwing strikes that pack the most power in a punch. Let’s break them down!

Stance

A basic principle that cannot be overlooked. If you wanna fight strategic you best get yourself in the best possible position to attack defend yourself. Guards up, feet placed firmly on the ground and one foot in-front of the other.

Footwork

You need to be able to transition quickly in the ring to counter-attack or defend yourself. Your feet help you find your distance and enable you to move around knowing exactly where your opponent is at all times.

Imagine your opponent moves to a 45 degree angle. You are now vulnerable and need to transition quickly to prevent an attack.

Cadence

If you want to pack the most power to your punch you’ll wanna get your cadence right. What is it? The transferring of your body weight from one side to the other. As you move your body weight back and forth before throwing a strike you load it up with the full-force of your physical weight behind the punch.

Range

The distance between you and your opponent matters. If you are fighting close range then throwing a punch or teep will not serve you well. You’ll need to use your elbows, knees or clinching instead. Mid range is the time to pull out your body shots, kicks or teeps and long range allows for straight punches and teeps.

Knowing how to fight at different ranges goes a long way to keeping you sharp in the ring and standing the test of time.
